Dr. Rita Chowdhury (b. 1960) has joined as Director of the National Book Trust, India. She takes over from Dr M A Sikandar, following his repatriation to the University of Delhi on completion of his deputation.

Born at Nampong in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh, Dr Rita Chowdhury holds master’s degree in Political Science as well as Asamiya, followed by LLB. She got her Ph.D. from Guwahati University. Before joining the Trust, she was an Associate Professor of Political Science, Department of Political Science, Cotton College, Guwahati.

A prominent Asamiya novelist, poet and activist, Dr Chowdhury’s oeuvre include Makam, a poignant portrayal of Assamese Indian community of Chinese origin; DeoLankhui, a novel of epic proportion on the glorious Tiwa Kingdom of Assam; and Ei XomoyXeiXomoy, a fictionalized account of the societal and political changes brought in by historic Assam Agitation against illegal immigration from Bangladesh to Assam.

Her other novels are AbirataYatra, Tirtha Bhumi, MahaJibanarAdharxila, PapiyaTarar Sadhu, RaagMalkosh, Jal Padma, HridoyNirupai, PapiNakshatrarGalpa, RazeebIshwar, Jahnabi and Mayabritta. Her 4 poetry collections viz. PratyaxarSwapna, SudoorNakshatra, AlapPohararAlapAandharar, and BagaMatirTulashi too have been well received.

Her first novel AbirataYatra (Incessant Journey) got her Asam Sahitya Sabha’s best manuscript award in 1981. Her Sahitya Akademi Award (2008) winning novel DeoLangkhui (The Divine Sword) got her a host of other awards including KalaguruBishnu Prasad Rabha Award. Makam (The Golden Horse) brought her national and international acclaim and this novel led to several critical discussions in national media on issues like Sino-India war, forced migration in Post Partition India etc.

Well known in the field of social activism, Dr Chowdhury has been quite active in giving voice to the voiceless. She is the Chief Trustee of ADHARXILA, an organization dedicated to empowering young writers of Assam. She has attended several national and international seminars and Panel Discussions on various issues of literature, society and international politics.

Pramod Kalita is a postgraduate in Assamese literature from Gauahati University. He is the secretary of Publication Board Assam since 2016. A journalist since his college days, he is a writer of non-fiction books. His first book Narendra Bhai is a political biography of Prime Minister Narendra Modi published in 2013. His second book Influence of Terrorism on Assamese Literature was published recently. He is a script writer and a film critic who has been invited to various film festivals.

Rahul Jain is a journalist for 16 years who straddles the print and electronic media. He is the founder secretary of the Film & Cultural Society of North East, an NGO which screens documentaries across the country as educational and character-building tool. He is also the Regional Coordinator for Indian Documentary Producers’ Association (IDPA) since 2010.

He is a regular invitee to Mumbai International Film Festival and, at times, IFFI, Goa wherein he conducts Open Forum sessions with top filmmakers while also participating in them as resource person. He contributes regularly to the festival dailies during the festival.Rahul Jain has done his film appreciation course from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in 2012. He is the treasurer of the North East Writers' Forum. His first love continues to be reading than accounting.

With a couple of documentary films to her credit, Ditimoni Gogoi freelances as a scriptwriter, radio jockey , television producer and social activist apart from bringing up two children. Her perception of the world as an assembly of emotions and aspirations is manifested in her work and personality. She started her career as an assistant professor in 1998. As her involvement in cultural and social activities increased she shifted base to Guwahati and wishes to continue from this city.

A graduate in Commerce but his varied range of interest landed him in a number of ramps as a model. His love for acting and other performing arts has made him a known face in the cultural arenas of Guwahati. Literature may not be his forte but his skills in coordination and network building has become an asset for the BLF 2018 Team. Though only in his early twenties, his sincerity and sense of responsibility assure him a bright future ahead.
