Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Borah, a physician by profession, is a renowned literary personality of Assam and is the Centenary President of Asom Sahitya Sabha. He is one of the finest fictionists, historians, travel writers, analysts and socially comitted writer of Assamese literature. He has to his credit 15 novels, 8 collections of articles, 3 historical monographs, 2 analytical books on nationalism and four volumes of popular history besides other writings published in both English and Assamese.
His latest novel Azar is set to the back-drop of kala-azar epidemic that ravaged Assam during colonial period and the social evils of the time and has been widely acclaimed. His first novel in English, Sleepwalker Deam was also critically acclaimed. His writings bring into forestage the forgotten, marginalised people of the area along the modern day complexties of a society in transition in the North Eastern part of the country.
He had been the editor of the socio literary journal Ajir Somoy for four years an at present is the editor of Yatra, the journal of Assamese literature and culture.
He is recipient of Sahitya Academy award for his novel Kalantar Gadya and the prestigious Ambikagiri Roychodhury award, Syed Abdul Malik award and the LIfetime Achievement award of Times of India.
