Dhruba Hazarika was inducted into the Indian Administrative Service in 1999 and served in various capacities, including that of Deputy Commissioner, Darrang and Director, Sports and Youth Welfare and Director(Operations) 33rd National Games. In early 2016 he took voluntary retirement while in the rank of Commissioner and Secretary with the intention of giving more time to writing and reading but was inducted soon after as a Member of the Assam Public Service Commission from where he retired in the capacity as Chairman recently.
Penguin India has published three of books till date comprising two novels, A Bowstring Winter, Sons of Brahma, and a short story collection, Luck . His next collection of short stories Savage Men is due for release later this year. His works have been included in the academic syllabi of several universities within the country.
He is a recipient of the DY365 Literary Award (2014) and the Katha Award for Creative Writing(1996) besides being a founder member of the prestigious North-East Writers’ Forum. He is presently the President of the Forum. Apart from reading and writing, Dhruba Hazarika’s other interests include painting, woodwork, trekking and cosmology.
