K.C.Verma joined the Indian Police Service in 1971 and was assigned to the Bihar cadre. He joined the Intelligence Bureau in 1976, where he served for thirty years, dealing with the whole range of intelligence, counter-terrorism and security issues. During this period, he served in Delhi as also in Manipur, Nagaland and Punjab.
From 2005 till 2008, he headed the Narcotics Control Bureau. He was Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat, during 2008.
He served as head of the R&AW, India’s external intelligence agency, in 2009-2010. Simultaneously, he functioned as Internal Security Adviser to the Union Home Minister from 2008 till 2010. He was a member of Naresh Chandra Task Force on National Security in 2011-12.
K.C.Verma studied in Mayo College, Ajmer and St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He is an alumnus of the National Defence College and a recipient of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
After his superannuation, he has renewed his passion for writing fiction. He has published two collections of short stories and maintains a popular blog. He occasionally also writes on strategic and security issues and is a resource person in several training establishments. He is associated with a few think tanks, and is involved in some track two diplomatic efforts.
He is married and has two daughters. He lives in Delhi.
